1W1A0511 CopyWe are delighted to share the news we have been awarded a fund of £12,000 to invest in providing more children with more opportunities for getting active outside of school hours.  Our PE department has already launched two new clubs (featured below) and there are lots more in the pipeline.  This additional funding combined with our excellent facilities and equally excellent PE department means our students have automatic and free membership to the most well appointed and staffed gym in the area!  To find out more, students should speak with their PE teacher and all new clubs will be shared in this blog.

Mrs Pickard and I have launched a lunchtime Fitness Club – and have been working with the students on their gym techniques to provide a series of work-outs and routines to aid strength and fitness.  The benefits of physical exercise are well publicised and supported here at Stone Lodge to support overall physical and emotional health.  Additionally, regular exercise aids focus, builds self-confidence and develops better social and problem solving skills.  Most importantly, it’s fun!

Students are invited to sign up to the fitness club with the Sports office and are welcome to come along during the sessions to find out more, like the students below who have all signed up to next week’s session!

Miss Rutt’s Trampolining after school club has certainly got off to an energetic start!  Currently offered to Years 9 and 10 – Miss Rutt is starting trampolining club for Years 7 and 8 every Tuesday after Easter half term.  Miss Rutt’s club offers a brilliant opportunity to have fun and build new skills; and trampolining has the added health advantages of a lower-impact cardio workout!  All abilities are very welcome and Miss Rutt is planning on working with students (who would like) to take part in local competitions. Sign up is required so see Miss Rutt as quickly as possible as there are only a few spaces left!

Moves performed below include, a front landing, seat landing, pike jump, front somersault and twist jumps.

On Friday 10th March, a selection of Year 7 and 8 students had the amazing opportunity to work with Marc Ruddick from Squire to take part in a Stage Combat Workshop. Students learned the safe practices of fist fighting and sword fighting for the stage and applied their new-found skills to scripts.  All students involved conducted themselves in such a professional and creative manner. We look forward to applying this performance style in our future projects.

Miss Arklie’s Year 7 Engineering and Design students are currently working on a project to design and make a ‘finger skateboard!  The project work requires students to learn the physical and working properties of stainless steel ahead of them making the axels and wheels of their boards.  Pictured beow, students smoothing the edges of their board shape.

Our SL6 Year 12 Engineers are working on a BBQ project to deepen their design and metal work skills.  Using an expensive and heavy-weight BBQ as the start point, students are re-designing and making a BBQ to their own specification ensuring their finished design is more light-weight and portable than the original BBQ and is more affordable.

Our Year 7 Musicians had a theoretical lesson where they researched the features, sounds and ranges of woodwind orchestral instruments.
